David Hebestreit has been part
of the game for 34 years as a player, coach, referee and manager. And, since taking over the Canton Celtic FC (CCF) Open team
in 2006, the team has amassed an 80-20-11 record, having won two Michigan USASA Amateur Cups and two Gerhard Mengel State
titles. Most recently, his Men's U20 team captured the 2011 USASA National Cups U20 Championship. Hebestreit has won state
and regional titles as both a player and a coach.
In his six years in charge of the Open team, Hebestreit has worked
diligently to build a relationship between the Canton Soccer Club and the CCFC adult program via his Open team and now, the
U20 and U23 teams. Over the last 15 years, due to an involvement in the USASA, Hebestreit was motivated to help build continuous
playing opportunities in the club for players U-19 and up. With assistance from U23 coach Nate Boyden, the adult program experienced
unparalleled growth in 2011.
Hebestreit has completed his USSF C license, manages the CCFC Open and U20 teams,
the University of Michigan men's club team and the varsity women's team at Livonia Churchill High School. He played
competitively in the USASA in both California and Michigan, with Concordia SC of San Francisco and with Detroit Arsenal and
Bill and Paul's Sporthaus, among others. He also spent time with Stal Mielecx FC of the Polish First Division and played
several years in the USISL.
Currently, he teaches English in Livonia Public Schools, having just finished his 13th
year in the classroom. He holds a B.A. in English from Madonna University, an M.A. in Curriculum from Marygrove College and
is completing an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the Rainier Writing Workshop at Pacific Lutheran University.
Midwest
